Light + Shadows

Believe me, when it comes to beautiful interiors, furniture, and architecture, I am the first to ooh and aah at all of it. I simply love the Nordic design icons, and also the new and upcoming designers and stylists. But oftentimes, it’s almost impossible to keep up with everything. It feels as if I just bought a new Iphone, and they release the ALL NEW 12S, the very next day. Overwhelming, to say the least.

That’s why, when it comes to photographing my home, I love to search out the plain details and unassuming corners of the space. It doesn’t necessarily have to be the BEST of the BEST product, or top of the line furniture piece that can be shot (although that has its’ time and place too), but it is the humble, natural beauty of the simple things surrounding us each day. One of the best modes of accomplishing this, is searching for light and shadows. There is exceptional beauty in nature and simplicity. We don’t always have to purchase possessions, in order to capture the still, small moments of the day.

There is NOTHING like natural light. When I am searching for a space to shoot, it is the FIRST thing that I consider. It’s very hard to replicate it. I can repaint walls, buy new curtains and furniture, but if I don’t have windows, which allow light to shine through…well then, the other things are far less significant. It’s just that straightforward.

I love the effect that shadows have on an object. They can be used to create considerable images, and give photos a sense of moodiness. Light, on the other hand, creates bright and cheery images. The combo of the two (light + shadows) is remarkable.

Are you a light chaser, as I am? Call me crazy, but I think it’s the most beautiful aspect of photography, without the high prices!
